Action #5:
Make time for loved ones
One of the most important factors that will allow you to build strong relationships is time. You can't create meaningful relationships with 10 minutes between meetings or one hour between errands. It takes effort and it takes commitment. Your boss is never going to get on your case when you neglect your friends and family. You must make your relationships a priority if you want them to prosper.
Instead of scheduling the items on your "to-do list", schedule in your real priorities. If you find that you are neglecting the people who are important in your life, schedule them into your busy life. It's easy to neglect your loved ones when they don't carry much importance on your calendar. Consider marking a "date night" or "friends night" or "family night" on your calendar or set aside one weekend a month as a "couple weekend."
Organizing reunions, parties, and potlucks are great ways to build community whether they are for extended family or for your college buddies. Everybody loves them but most people don't take the time to plan them. They can be very cheap if you stay at home and have a potluck. Get-togethers can be spontaneous, too. Throw an impromptu barbecue with your neighbors or play an after dinner volleyball game.
